Betty Hermann peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at her home in Rochester, MN. Betty was born in Rolla, MO on August 31, 1935. She is the 2nd child of Harrison and Elizabeth. She graduated from high school and worked as a telephone operator in Rolla. (Back when wires were used to connect calls,)
Betty was convinced to go on a date with Gilbert Hermann through her mom's support of him. Six months later, between summer work and the start of his senior year they were married on August 31, 1957. They were married for 66 years and 2 days at the time of dad's death in 2023. After Gil graduated, Betty and Gil moved to Endicott, NY in 1960 with their 2 children. Gil's IBM career led the family to Rochester, MN in 1963. Here in Rochester they raised their three children.
While the children were finishing high school, Betty went back to RCTC and completed an associate degree in accounting. She worked for Bridgemans corporate office in their bookkeeping department until they closed. She later worked at Northgate Fitness Center in their childcare. She loved spinning and water aerobics.
She was devoted to her family which showed by how she lovingly cared for them every day of her life. Rarely were the words spoken yet her family knew of her deep love for them. She had a quick wit and sense of humor that lended to easing the tension of difficult situations and making hard work lighter. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet/knit baby afghans. She faithfully gardened and tended to her flower beds.
Betty is survived by her children, Beverly Hermann of Burnsville, MN; Stephen Hermann of Rochester; Michael Hermann of Rochester. She is also survived by her younger sisters; Carol Campbell and Bert Wiliams of Rolla, MO; her sisters-in-laws, Helen Rottler and Bernadine Hermann of St. Genevieve, MO.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her parents; and her siblings, Peggy, Roy, and Jackie.
Her life celebration will be held Saturday, March 1st at Maxon Family Cremation and Life Celebrations in Rochester, MN. There will be open visitation at 10:00am until 1:00pm. Inurnment will follow after the visitation at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
