Clara Isaak

August 9, 1938 — February 28, 2025

Clara Ann Isaak passed away on February 28, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic following complications from a head injury related to an accidental fall. She was born on August 9, 1938, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Simon and Elizabeth (Skalsky) Vogel. Clara was raised on the Vogel family farm, an original heritage homestead, after her grandfather immigrated from South Russia, in 1890. Growing up on the farm instilled her as a hard worker she carried throughout her life. Clara married Gordon Dale Isaak Sr. on August 30, 1956 in Mandan, North Dakota. Their union produced nine children. After their divorce, she persevered through life's challenges, earning her GED and an Associate degree from Bismarck State College. She found a meaningful career in senior healthcare, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many. After her retirement, she moved to Minnesota to be closer to her family.

Clara had a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of flowers and birds. The sight of a hummingbird hovering in the garden or the sweet melody of a cardinal brought her immense joy. She loved watching birds from her window or tending to blossoms in the sunshine.

Clara found joy in exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and making lifelong memories traveling to Seattle, Washington, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. Of all the places visited, Hawaii was her paradise and held a special place in her heart. Hawaii's breathtaking landscapes, warm ocean breezes, and the spirit of aloha brought her a sense of peace and happiness.

Clara had a knack for knitting, crocheting, quilting, and embroidery turning simple threads into beautiful works of art. Each stitch held love, each pattern told a story, and every creation was a gift of warmth. She found joy in crafting beauty with her hands and sharing the handmade pieces left behind, each one a reminder of the love and care woven into every stitch.

Clara loved Pomeranian dogs. Fannie was her last Pomeranian who was more than a pet. Fannie was her shadow bringing Clara endless joy, a source of comfort, and companionship until her passing.

Among many blessings in Clara's life was a rare and extraordinary friendship with Dorothy Sayler that spanned over 50 years. They shared a special bond, stories, and laughter with monkeys. Every birthday or holiday gift included some type of a monkey. Dorothy and Clara never shared the story, why, or how this bond over monkeys was created with anyone!

Clara is survived by her children: Dr. Frederick Isaak (Beth) of Dubuque IA; Bruce Isaak of Bismarck, ND; Debra Isaak of Monticello, MN; Lisa Richter (Christopher) of Woodbury, MN; Todd Isaak (Kami) of Hazen, ND; Melissa Isaak of Maplewood, MN, and Karilee Isaak Weigman (Michael) of Rochester, MN. Grandchildren: Natasha Stocker, James Isaak, Brandy Isaak Johnson, Dawn Dietz, Kelli Jo Isaak, Ashley Koch, Katee Glover, Joshua Richter, Megan Gordy, Logan Isaak, Nouri Shadi, Dylan Isaak, Morgan Weigman and 22 great-grandchildren. Special friends: Lolly Berger, Stephanie Mehl, Marjorie Dickie, Norma Gathje, and Frances Ostrum.

She is preceded in death by her sons James Isaak and Gordon Isaak Jr.; her parents; and special friends Dorothy Sayler and Rose Raben.

Clara was raised in the strong traditions of her Roman Catholic faith, which remained a foundation in her life. She found great strength and joy in prayer, the sacraments, and her church community. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date at Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. Clara will be reunited in rest with her beloved son, James Isaak, as they are laid to rest together at St. Martin Cemetery in Hazen, ND.

In honor of Clara's love for animals, the family invites you to donate to a botanical garden, bird sanctuary, an animal rescue, shelter, or favorite animal charity in her name.
