Steven Alber

Steven Mark Alber, 68, passed away on March 7, 2025 after a sudden illness at the Mayo Health System in Rochester, MN, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was born in Postville, IA on September 21, 1956, the son of Gerald (Gary) and Marvel (Frederick) Alber. He was raised on the family farm located outside of Eldorado.

He was a member of their family band, The Albers. They played at many local events and county fairs. The band had the honor of being the opening act for Barbara Mandrell.

In high school, he was active in FFA serving as FFA president. He received the State and National FFA Proficiency Award in Poultry and Egg Production. He graduated from North High School in West Union in 1974.

Steve was a proud veteran, enlisting in the Army in 1976 before being honorably discharged in 1979. He married Chrisanne Kuboushek in 1975 and they had two children. They later separated.

Steve attended Upper Iowa University, earning a BA in Business in 1984 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Graduate School of Banking, earning his MBA and serving as president of his class in 1998. After many years of banking, he transitioned into insurance until his retirement.

Steve is survived by his daughter Jamie (Michael) Nelson and son Nicholas (Whitney) Alber, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, grandchildren Kennedy, Reagan, Addyson and Brayden, brothers Randy (Linda), Jeff (LuAnn), Tad, Chad (Cecelia), sisters Joy (Ric) Miller, Kristi (Marty) Rupprecht, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, several brothers-in-law, several sisters-in-law and special friend and caregiver, Nita Willie.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Brooke (Buck) Alber.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Steve's life on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the West Union Event Center at 10201 Harding Rd West Union, IA 52175. There will be a private interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
